I have been studying elephants. I have been reading a book called Endangered Elephants, looking at pictures and searching on the computer. I ‘m going to write about endangered elephants. I hope you like my paper.
Did you know that elephants trunks are prehensile. That means “able to grasp, lift, and throw.” The elephants tusks do never stop growing. And by the way their tusks are made of ivory. Elephants are stolen to be taken somewhere fun for kids—the circus!
Did I tell you that elephants are endangered? Endangered means animals that are in ‘danger’ of dying out in the wild. There are many reasons that there endangered. Their habitats are being destroyed. Poachers are killing them. You want to know why? They kill them for art and jewelry.
Do you want to help elephants? If you do, follow these directions. Vote to ban ivory and help elephants by saving their habitats. "Akimbo and the Elephant" is just like what I'm talking about. It's about a boy that tries to save the elephant from the Ivory trade.
Congratulations, Yellow Group!
You are officially published authors! Each of you has used your reading, writing, and critical thinking skills to write a five-paragraph essay on an important social issue. By writing about endangered elephants, you are educating other people about the importance of this issue. We must hope that by educating other individuals, we can join together to fight the many injustices suffered by elephants. Thank you for your hard work and consistent enthusiasm.

Sincere: your essay brings a very serious situation to my attention - it makes me mad and sad to think of an elephant being killed for art! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

sincere, your essay was well written and told me a lot about the seriousness of the problem of keeping elephants alive and safe.
thanks for the information. I will tell my students about this problem and ask them to support efforts to stop elephant poaching. thanks, Eva N.
Sincere,
This is a very well explained essay. Every term that I did not know, you made sure to explain for me. I am glad you took the time to make your essay include such difficult vocabulary. I am impressed. Lemony Snicket uses the same technique you do! Keep up the good work!

Sincere, this essay really makes me want to take action! I like how you give clear instructions in your last paragraph about what I can do to help. Also, is "Akimbo and the Elephant" a book? If so, I would really like to read it. You have done a lot of great research for this essay, good work!
Noah,
Of course I liked your essay. Now I know what prehensile means. I can't wait to use that word in a conversation. Do you think it's okay to kill elephants for jewelry? How do you think we can stop this cruelty to elephants? I think a great place to start is by educating the next generation to be aware of these issues. Thank you for taking a stand.
Keep up the good work.
